About the Artist

Gabrielle Szambelan is an Australian abstract painter based in Potsdam, Germany. With a background career that includes international filmmaking and academia, Szambelan is now following her first love and call to art—contemporary painting. Her collection of abstracts are a homage to her land of origin, including the unique beauty of its landscapes, the vibrant energy of it’s oceans and the memories created in those spaces. Szambelan’s works also explore how self-identity is shaped by, and connected to, meaningful places and moments.

Her artistic practice is characterised by dynamic movement, colour and texture that strive to capture the rhythms of Australia’s coastal environment. This is manifested through the use of bright acrylic paints and water, mixed and layered together on canvas to create spontaneity and structure.

Szambelan's work seeks to ignite both energy and serenity in the spaces they inhabit, and to foster a connection to the heartbeat of the ocean and the memories it creates within us. Through her art, she hopes to evoke deep emotional connections in viewers while bringing calmness and reflection of the self with nature.

Giving Back

Szambelan’s art is inspired by a deep connection and love for the ocean. To help support the protection of our oceans and to maintain the breathtaking beauty of our beaches and the nature that surrounds it, Szambelan donates 10% of profits from her original art to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation - an organisation that works to safeguard and restore the Great Barrier Reef and its ecosystems.

Thank you for being a supporter of Szambelan’s art and the nature that inspires it.

50km Running Challenge

In August 2025, Szambelan is running 50km in Fred’s Big Run to continue The Fred Hollows Foundation’s mission to restore sight and end avoidable blindness.

In developing countries, 9 out of 10 people who are blind don’t have to be. A simple $25 surgery can give someone back their sight, and their future.

Your donation can help make that happen.

Please support Szambelan’s challenge here.
